Misconceptions of Hypnosis

Will I lose control?

Many people fear hypnosis because they think they'll lose control and be made to do things against their will. This is a common misconception. In reality, you are always in control during a hypnotherapy session. You can accept or reject any suggestions I make.

Will I remember everything?

During hypnosis, you’ll be aware of background noises and my voice. You may deeply relax and momentarily tune out, but you can always refocus on my voice. You can remember everything if you choose to, though some natural forgetfulness can occur in a deep trance, aiding relaxation and positive changes. Typically, you’ll recall about 80% of the session.
Remember, hypnosis is a natural state, and you’re always in control.

Will I give away my deep Dark Secrets.?

Often people are afraid that I’m going to make them reveal some of their deep secrets. Again this is about losing control. Well, actually in trance you can lie to me or tell me the truth. It’s all up to you. You are always in control and I can never make you do or say anything you don’t want to say or do. It is important that you are honest and sincere for your benefit though. Wouldn’t you want to spend your money to achieve your outcomes by being open and sincere about your issue?

What is the subconscious mind?

The subconscious mind does not have a voice, it communicates through emotions, feelings, images or pictures, and unconscious movements. I may acknowledge these because I am communicating with the subconscious mind and it’s okay if, you consciously don’t know, your subconscious mind knows perfectly well.

It is therefore okay to take the opportunity during a session to allow emotions, feelings, and to just let them out as this can greatly be a moment of healing, insight or understanding like “A light bulb Moment”

What happens if my mind is wandering?

Sometimes a person’s mind may wander or they may be so focused inwardly just like in a normal conversation. This is very natural because sometimes we go deep inside to create meaning from our experiences. Like before, you just bring your awareness back to my voice and follow my instructions or just enjoy the process.

When you listen to me I can guide you to achieve the changes that you want because I am communicating with the subconscious mind. This is achieved through trance where change happens.

What will I feel like when I am in trance or hypnosis?

Firstly hypnosis or trance is a very normal and natural state of the human condition. We all go into and out of trance every day. How do we do this you may ask?

Well, when we are reading a very interesting novel, for example, we can be so absorbed and engrossed in the story that when someone calls us we may not hear them and they would need to tap us to get our attention. Also when we are drivers on the road, we may have a conversation or our thoughts may drift to things other than driving or it can happen when you zone out of a conversation.

Hypnosis has no feeling. What we like to do as a facilitator, is guide you to feel so relaxed, your legs and arms may go heavy just like Sunday mornings on waking, and you know there’s no need to go anywhere and can just relax. Your body feels comfortable, heavy or light and it’s almost an effort to get up.
People enjoy being relaxed in a deep state of relaxation, sometimes they love going so deep they start tuning you out and if that happens you can just bring your awareness back and follow the instructions.

Can I get stuck in hypnosis and what is it?

Let me ask you this. When you are sleeping do you get stuck in sleep? No, you don't. If you can’t get stuck in sleep you definitely can’t get stuck in Hypnosis. You are not asleep, The word “sleep” is just a word that is easily accepted by the subconscious mind. You are in a state of focused attention, reduced peripheral awareness, and an enhanced capacity to respond to suggestions.

It is an altered state which is utilized to promote healing, growth, and transformation in the mind, body,, and the person as a whole in a way that brings positive change.

It works by activating the creative state of the mind and body, bypassing the critical faculty, the analytical, logical and critical part of the conscious mind, and establishing Selective Thinking where you become focused and accept positive suggestions that create the change you seek.

If we can resolve our issues at a logical level, we don’t need to seek hypnotherapy now.

What can I do to get the most benefit out of my hypnotherapy session?

Firstly you need to recognize that your health and well-being depend directly on how well you care for yourself, emotionally, physically, intellectually, and Spiritually.

In Hypnotherapy we need commitment on your part. Especially for smokers. Nothing is going to happen without a commitment to the process. If you have tried the gum, the patch, the pharmaceuticals, and willpower, and nothing have helped, then commitment is vital to create a positive change on the road to becoming a non-smoker.

It’s important to think about your issue honestly, acknowledge feelings, thoughts, and desires.

Accept responsibility, you are the only one that can make the decision and that requires your action.
